Why Is Boracay So Popular?

Boracay is located in the Visayas region of the Philippines and belongs to the province of Aklan. It holds the title of most popular beach in the country and is a competitor to other beaches across the globe. It has ranked 4th in the World's Best Awards last year.

It was in the 70s when Boracay was 'discovered' by the world when a movie was shot there - the movie was Too Late The Hero. A few years after, the island became a popular destination for beach lovers and backpackers alike. The popularity of the island has increased every year.

These are just some of the reasons why people keep coming back to this island:

1. Boracay is very popular for its sands. If these sands were shoes, they can simply be called 'Blahniks'. The rumors you hear are true, it is powder-y and your feet deserve sands like that.

2. On a normal day in Boracay, between 5 and 6PM, amateur and professional photographers set their cameras to take photos of the majestic Boracay sunset. Children, families and lovers would lay their mats on the sand to catch a glimpse of this daily miracle.

3. The waters of Boracay are very clean and clear. There are a couple of months, though, when the waters are filled with 'moss' as part of the ocean's cleaning process (April and May). All over the shores of the beach, there are men and women looking for customers who want to snorkel, helmet dive, parasail, or ride the banana boats.

4. The night life in Boracay is exceptional. The photo on the left was taken in 2008 and so much has changed since then. There are more bars, restaurants, coffee shops, souvenir shops...even spas! Tourism has brought so much revenue to the island that so many establishments have sprung up - this has gotten some negative feedback from tourists and natives because the island has become too commercialized.

This short list of 4 does not do justice to the beauty of the island. If you have the resources, come and visit one of the Philippines' best tourist spots. You will love it.
